Silverlight dependency property not updating

Now I'm not sure, but I expected that refreshing a property's value woudl trigger a refresh of the Node.Perhaps Node just needs to implement INotify Property Changed?class My Converter : IValue Converter { public object Convert(object value, Type target Type, object parameter, System. Culture Info culture) The problem is that when the property's notifychanged event happens, the binding above is not refreshed/retriggered.If I change it to: Then the notifychanged *does* trigger a refresh. This topic describes the reasons that application developers and component authors for Silverlight might want to create custom dependency properties. This topic describes the implementation steps for a dependency property, as well as some implementation options that can improve performance, usability, or versatility of the property. This topic assumes that you understand dependency properties from the perspective of a consumer of existing dependency properties on Silverlight classes, and have read Dependency Properties Overview.Below is what my new snippet (added to the My Snippets folder) looks like, with changes and additions highlighted.I have a control that has a list of stuff, and once I make a change to some unrelated thing I really need to force the binding to re-run… Something like “Invalidate Measure” but for binding…

Register(“On Or Off”, typeof (On Off), typeof (Some Custom Control), new Property Metadata(-1, On Property Changed Callback)); Running the app like this will cause an exception, since it cannot convert the –1 to the On Off enum.

The control just changes background color when you set the enum to On (green), or Off (red). The problem is that the dependency property will take the enum member with number 0 as default, On Off. And when setting the value in XAML (or code for that matter) will not update the property backing the dependency property: The code to render this is found here: As you can see the left one is NOT green. On (value 0), and setting it (again) to On doesn’t trigger the execution of On Property Changed Callback.

We can solve this (of course, otherwise what would be the point of writing this?

But creating the enum with a value of –1 doesn’t work: This is why setting –1 to the default value of the dependency property doesn’t work (unless you of course have a –1 value in the enum!

It can be a little tedious to type in everything that you need to define a Dependency Property but you can use VS 2008's snippets to make is easy.
